Depo-Provera Intracranial Meningioma Canadian Class Action
CONSUMER LAW GROUP is investigating a Canada-wide class action lawsuit against Pfizer Canada, one of the largest manufacturers of pharmaceutical drugs in Canada and around the world, with respect to the injectable contraceptive drug DEPO-PROVERA.
DEPO-PROVERA is an injectable contraception / pregnancy control drug whose main active ingredient is medroxyprogesterone acetate. Medroxyprogesterone acetate is a progestogen that comes in an odourless crystalline powder, that is white to off-white in colour, and stable in air.
DEPO-PROVERA is administered in single intramuscular injections of 150 mg dosages every 90 days. Pfizer recommends that DEPO-PROVERA be injected only within the five days of the onset of a normal menstrual period, or only within the first five days post-partum if not breastfeeding. Contraceptive effectiveness requires that the woman return every 10 to 13 weeks for a repeat intramuscular injection, and intervals between injections cannot exceed 13 weeks (3 months).
A medical study published in The British Medical Journal in 2024 concludes that there is an increased risk of intracranial meningioma (a type of brain tumour) associated with the use of medroxyprogesterone acetate. Meningiomas account for 40% of primary tumours of the central nervous system and also give rise to symptoms including seizures, visual impairments, headaches and other neurological problems.
The class action currently under investigation contemplates that Pfizer was negligent in its design and testing of DEPO-PROVERA, failed to warn patients and medical professionals about the risks and dangers in injecting it, and neglected to update the medical information listed on its label with adequate warnings of said risks despite mounting evidence and increased numbers of patients whose health was directly negatively impacted.
Consumer Law Group believes action must be taken for all patients who have developed intracranial meningiomas or other brain tumours after injecting DEPO-PROVERA, including financial compensation for medical costs, anxiety, diminished quality of life, and emotional upset.
If you or someone you know have developed intracranial meningioma or other types of brain tumour as a result of injecting DEPO-PROVERA, or to be kept advised of the status of the Pfizer DEPO-PROVERA contraception Class Action litigation or any resulting compensation resulting from the Class Action Lawsuit in Canada, Ontario, or Quebec, please provide your contact information to our law firm using the below form.
